SLAMbassadors UK and Hollie McNish

SLAMbassadors UK is proud to announce that the new judge  and Spoken Word Icon for 2013 is the incredible and powerful Hollie McNish.

Famous for her direct  and moving poetry focusing on the female experience she will be joining Joelle Taylor and judges from the Poetry Society and the Southbank Centre to help select the 6 winners of 2013. The winners will work with Joelle in an intensive Master Class to create a debut professional set, which they will then premier on stage in the Clore Ballroom in the Royal Festival Hall on November 1st 2013.

Hollie is a former UK Slam Champion and finalist in the World Slam Championships. She has published one collection of her poetry Papers, as well as two albums Push, Kick and Touch. As well as this she has performed at every high profile venue in the UK as well as oversees with the British Council, and is a massively popular poet on the summer festival circuit – from Glastonbury to Latitude via Camp Bestival.

She is also one of the highest visited poets on You Tube, with her piece about immigration Mathematics notching up over 1.4 million views in little over a week. She is following this success up now with a piece about the hypocrisy that surrounds women breastfeeding in public Embarrassed.

Her politics and her poetics make her an artist that SLAMbassadors UK and the Poetry Society are proud to be associated with. A strong role model for young Britain.  For your chance to be one of the 6 winners mentored by the Poetry Society please see How To Enter.  If you live in London you might also want to attend a free workshop on Friday August 16th with Joelle Taylor on the theme of Identity – and have your entry recorded there and then.
