A previous slam winner will be appearing as one of the finalists in a BBC series called The Speaker.

Haroon Anwar, who won the prize for best act (under 16) with Tamer Ibrahim in 2006, will be battling it out to become Britain’s Best Young Speaker in a new series airing on BBC2 on Wednesdays at 8pm.

SLAMbassador’s UK mentor Chris Preddie has been named by Umbro as one of its top 11 creative talents. Alongside designers, illustrators, musicians, photographers and directors Chris has been singled out for his work in spoken word and – as a member of the CrimeStoppers team – for his efforts in tackling gun and knife crime in the capital. Through the project, the participants share their experiences of growing up in England and their connection to football. He says, ‘England football shows that no matter who you are or where you are from, we can all come together. It’s about unity’.

And on Thursday 16 April it will all be about kicking a few words around our dusty studio, as both Chris and I will be mentoring the 4 London finalists in the their final session before their BIG GIG on April 30th at the Royal Festival Hall.
